A new tattoo?

Posted by: Domestic goddess on: January 7, 2010

Lately I have been putting some thought into what my next tattoo will be and I have decided that after a year and a half of being submerged in the world of roller derby it has to be a pinup derby girl.

Many of my friends are huge fans of Mimsy who some of you may know from the derby dolls doco a few years ago. Her work is very cute and girlie. Mimsy also did some graphics for the doco and I am seriouly thinking of using one of her illustrations.

My drama is that I also love Mitch O’Connell and Bettie Page and Mitch has done some very fine derby girls in his time such as the one below.

Argh! Decisions, decisions …

I have been part of the Sun State Roller Girls Roller Derby League for the past two months and I have to say it has been an absolute blast. The thing that is so great is that we come from all walks of life but are all joined together by our love of the sport.

Just last month we had our first bout for the season in Brisbane at the Beenleigh Sports Arena. Here are some pics of the girls in action.

Skating on air with my baby at my side

Posted by: Domestic goddess on: August 31, 2008

Well it has been a while since I blogged but it is because I have been such a busy little bee.

I have finally bitten the bullet and become an official derby girl. I have joined the Brisbane Derby league, Sun State Roller Girls who I must say are a bunch of super friendly kickass ladies.

With this has been the purchase of my new much loved Riedell R3 skates which feel like skating on air compared to the crappy hire skates I was using.

My hubby Jaimie has also made a start on his two pin-up girl sleeves. The idea behind it is that each arm represents his conscious. The left is his good boy thoughts telling him not to be naughty, stay at home and be a good hubby and the right will be his naughty side which of course will be a bad girl sitting on a bobber. This is his left so far, he thinks he will have a kitchen added in the back in the long run.

Will Sunday be the new Wednesday??

Posted by: Domestic goddess on: July 18, 2008

As a child and an adult I have loved Morticia Addams.

It was her sexy long black hair and pale face that did it for me. It made me realize that it was OK not to look like Barbie. My favourite Morticia was Anjelica Huston. The thing was that no one really dug her kids did they. I mean Wednesday was great but she was no Punky Brewster.

So when Nicole Kidman named her daughter Sunday it got me thinking. Maybe the times were a changing. Maybe it was finally Wednesday’s time. I mean if all those people could get excited about a kid called Sunday. Maybe Wednesday had a chance.

So this week I celebrate Wednesday Addams, just imagine how rocking she would be now that she would be all grownup. She would have been the coolest Emo kid on the block. And remember what her Mum looked like!!

I wanna be a derby girl

Those of you old enough to remember way back when will remember roller derby. They were mean girls that would bash each other up as they charged around in roller skates.

I have to admit that derby is becoming a new fascination for me. Sexy chicks slamming into each other sounds like top fun. I am at the moment deciding whether to keep going with hockey next year or take up derby so you may have figured out I am a girl that likes it rough :P

Up here is Brisvegas it has a strong underground following through the whole rockabilly/psychobilly scene. So much so that there is actually a documentary coming out on the girls. I can’t wait :) Here is a sneek peek of Derby Dolls

A world without mobile phones

Posted by: Domestic goddess on: May 6, 2008

On the weekend I spent a few days at the lovely 4wd park Levuka in Northern NSW. Believe it or not it actually was nice. I love that my mobile does not work there because it is out of range. I also love that you can still have an open fire there so even if it is freeze your bum off cold your front bits are warm. I also love that the next town or Urbenville is tiny and consists of no more than a pub, a general store, a post office and only a few hundred residents.

My hubby likes it the most. This time we were in the new 4wd that we purchased about six months ago, a Landrover Discovery. The list of broken things are extensive. An aerial, back bumper, an indicator, a dent in the rear back quarter and a bent steering arm protector. But I am OK with it all. You see the Disco has hail damage, so the reality is she is ugly.

Our friend Jim came for the weekend and was a favourite with the ladies. Not because he is cute, but because his car is. It seems that middle aged women love jeeps, who knew! All round as you can see it was good muddy fun :)

The dirty girls

The tattooed lady

I have wanted a tattoo for years. In the last few years I have become a fan of pinup girls like Sabina Kelley. Who had the prettyiest sleeves in the world.Sabina Kelley

So I decided that it was time to bite the bullet and get my own. The idea behind it was to remind me that it is OK not to be Suzie homemaker and just be myself. Since I got married I thought there was something I had to be and the truth is I didn’t. It took my husband a long time to make me realize that. So finally I had my tattoo done and this is it.

My little money pit

Posted by: Domestic goddess on: May 1, 2008

About two years ago my hubby decided that I needed something very special for my birthday as I was turning the big 30. I had asked for all the usual things, you know a pony, a little vespa scooter, smelly old retro furniture.

Beatice with her sexy patinaInstead he bought me something that went against everything he stood for. He bought me a 67 VW Beetle. Initially it was an old girl by the name of Beatrice. I loved her because she had the smell of 40 years of bum and degrading vinyl. I was so nostalgic, it all took me back to when I was 21 and went and purchased my first beetle, a 61 named Bertie. Bertie also had an odd smell and like many beetles would work his windscreen wipers when he felt like it. I loved that car :)

But then I met Betty. Unlike Beatrice here cancerous rust was minimal and she came in the sexiest colour in the world. Flat Black sprayed on with paint cans. I fell in love and suddenly it was over for Beatrice and my affair with Betty began.

Betty rollin at Rockabilly Rumble West End BrisbaneTwo years on and Bad Betty still has a few issues but what 41 year old woman doesn’t? Most of all she’s mean and sexy and I love her. I also love hubby for making her happen at last.

Hello world goodbye myspace!

Ok so decided to do the blog thing, I have to admit that a big part of my inspiration comes from Julia my old high school friend (or is that work friend because we both did our Coffee Club stint). She always has lots of smart great stuff to say.

I tried the myspace thing and to be honest I just don’t dig it. The whole blog function sucks so I am being converted. So stay tuned for some grumpy ramblings!!
